Practical SEO

Marketing your website to get website traffic, in my opinion, is much harder than actually making it.  Sure, you might get lucky, make a wonderful website and not really have to market it much at all. But most of the time if you don’t market your site you won’t be seen.  I created this site to show you how to get website traffic in a practical manner, this is aimed at those who either don’t have any marketing experience at all or are at the least, not professionals.

There are two main styles of SEO, on-site SEO and off-site SEO.  On-site SEO is what you do to your own site, meaning proper keyword density, heading tags, title, etc… Off-site SEO is what you do typically to get inbound links to your site, these links could be for PR purposes only or they could be in the form of traffic generators.  Working on either will allow you to get more traffic but you really need both to maximize your search engine traffic.

Both styles of search engine optimization are critical to getting high rankings in the search engines and both also require time and effort on your part.  There is no magic bullet, you either have to put in a good amount of time or you have to pay a professional a large sum of money to do it for you.  So unless you already have a lot of money, most of you will need to do the work yourself, which is what I’ll help you with.

What color is your hat?

You will see two terms a lot during your SEO work, ‘White Hat’ and ‘Black Hat’, both of which can help you get more traffic.  These two terms essentially refer to the style of SEO you use, ‘white hat’ means you follow the rules of the road, you stay within the search engines’ guidelines and play nicely with the other kids in the playground.  ‘Black hat’ on the other hand refers to SEO techniques that are sneaky, they are meant to find loopholes in the system that allow you to gain ranking and get website traffic quickly and with minimal effort.  I highly recommend you don’t employ black hat techniques.  The instant the search engines, such as Google, find out about your techniques, and they will sooner or later, they will give you the big boot and your site won’t be seen in any search engine results for months and it will take a long, long time before you can get more traffic.
